The Serchio Valley is encased between two mountain chains, the Apuane Alps and the Tuscan Emilian Apennines, which contain level areas at various altitudes, hills and mountains. The mountains in the Apennines are rounded and easily travelled, whilst the Apuane Alps have a typical alpine profile. In this context walking is the most natural thing to do and the best way to discover the breathtaking pastures in the area and unexpected sights like the many wild animals. The choice of pathways provides excursions of one or more days or, short walks, if you don't have a particular trek in mind. Many lodgings have mapped routes or they supply information for short walks in the surroundings.
Security is very important for anyone who uses a mountain pathway. We advise you to seek out local information on the state of the pathway you intend to use, to have adequate clothing, to consult ahead of time the weather forecast particularly when you are starting a demanding trek.
